Follow organic dairy farmer Jonathan Gates as he reports weekly from his Vermont family farm. Howmars Farm is a certified organic dairy farm, one of many Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative farmer members who supply the milk that goes into making Stonyfield's yogurts and smoothies. The entire family pitches in on this third-generation farm. Check out some of the happenings on his farm and post your comments. Jonathan loves to get feedback from readers. welcome to

Okay, well, maybe not exactly under the Christmas tree, but you might consider this unique holiday gift: a cow from Stonyfield Farm's "Have-a-Cow" program.
For just $3, you'll be sponsoring a real dairy cow who supplies milk to Stonyfield Farm. With a sponsorship, you'll receive a photo (for example, Peewee here, to the left), an official certificate, a biography of the cow, and seasonal updates about that cow's life on the farm--four times a year. It's a great gift for someone who just wants or needs to learn more about life on the farm -- and who doesn't? Go here for the sponsorship info or why not Test Your Farm Smarts with our short farm quiz..

Are you pastureing your cows? Are your cows crated at any time in their lives? I am looking for a cruelty free dairy farm. Thank you.

Please tell me if you are a cruelty free dairy farm, I am looking for a dairy farm that does not crate the cows at any time and treats their cows with as much care and love as the farmers did years ago. Thanks
